Gartner Report on OpenVMS
JournalFrom Sujatha Ramani, Office of OpenVMS Programs:

Dear VMS Champions,

I am very happy to share this fantastic report from Gartner with you all. This is the much awaited report from Gartner on migration planning for Alpha server users. Our main thrust has been to help our OpenVMS customers migrate from our earlier platforms to the newer ones to gain the state of the art features and benefits- like enhanced performance, productivity, virtualisation, system manageability and many more that we keep bringing out in our newer products and solutions. It makes a big impact if a third party like Gartner comes up with a study , analysis and recommendations on migrations from Alpha.

As we all know, Gartner is a worldwide leader in IT research bringing most comprehensive collection of analysis and advice for the users and vendors of technology. Customers refer to Gartner as the best first source for addressing virtually any IT issue because of objective insight. Their expert analysts cover 1,071 topics across the IT landscape, based in 26 countries. Thus giving us a true worldwide viewpoint.

Why wait, start your migration exercise now!

Read the Gartner report on OpenVMS: "Best Practices: Migration Planning for Alpha Server Users"

A special thanks to Carolyn Whitney for getting this done!

Thanks and warm regards,

Sujatha

Network Interruption - Aug 14th
NetworkThere will be a network interruption for all of the Hobbyist systems on Aug 14th. Verizon is making me change IP addresses, so there will be a little down-time during this transition while I reset name servers, and network addresses on the servers, and all the other networky things. Once they tell me the actual time this will occur...

Everything should be finished by Noon on Aug 14th (that would be US Central Time!)

I have to agree with jordanec as the generally accepted method of determining bitness is size of general registers not address limitations.
